Welcome,
This month, we mark our eighth year in businesses and what a ride it's been!
The fleets we've had the honor to serve are driven by creative and dedicated people who are a joy to work with every day. And the partners we've teamed up with have been vital to providing the highest levels of service. We're proud be part of such an exciting industry.
The latest addition to our team is Matthew Marliere in the role of Client Success Representative. Matthew brings experience in fleet management at Amazon, which he's applied to help our fleet customers optimize their operations. He also has experience in medicine, an aspect that is directly relevant to our work with NEMT fleets.
I recently returned from the annual TMPAA Target Markets Summit in Scottsdale, AZ. This annual event brings together a wide range of industry leaders focused on program administration involving insurance programs targeted to a niche market or class. Each year, we look forward to applying the information and connections we glean from this experience to optimizing coverage for our customers.
S.W.A.N. Director of Transportation and NEMT Lead Marc Crawford recently spoke at The Transportation Alliance's 108th Annual Mobilize Convention in Anaheim, CA. Marc spoke on a panel - Risk Management: Policies and Procedures Matter - and we'll be sharing more about this in next month's newsletter.
Lastly, we highlight current challenges facing cross-border fleets as reported by FreightWaves. Fleets are facing difficult conditions in areas such as trade restrictions, higher financing costs and driver shortages. We're always here to provide expertise and assistance in times like these to help fleets weather these situations.
Until next month, we appreciate your being part of our S.W.A.N. community. We welcome your input on how we can support you as you grow your business. As always, we're here to help you Sleep Well At Night. Simply reply to this email or contact us online by clicking here.
Thank you,
Chris Mahlberg, TRS

Marliere Joins S.W.A.N. as Client Success Representative
We're pleased to announce Matthew Marlierer has joined S.W.A.N. as our new Client Success Representative. Born and raised in San Diego, he brings a unique blend of experience from both the logistics and healthcare industries.
Matthew spent two years in fleet management at Amazon followed by three years in healthcare as a certified surgical technologist. He graduated from PIMA Medical Institute in 2020 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Surgical Technology.
Combined, these backgrounds give him a firsthand understanding of the needs of operators in the NEMT and trucking industries as well as the duties and responsibilities they carry toward the patients and clients they serve.
"My goal at S.W.A.N. is to provide excellent service to operators so they can Sleep Well At Night, knowing their insurance needs are always taken care of," Matthew said.
Outside of work, Matthew enjoys spending time with his dogs and loved ones. He has many hobbies, including cooking, gardening and raising animals - riding motorcycles is his true passion. When it comes to food, Thai is his favorite.
Please join us in welcoming Matthew to the team! If you haven't already, visit our website to learn more about Matthew and the rest of the S.W.A.N. team.

TMPAA Summit Offers Industry Insights and Relationships
S.W.A.N. Founder & CEO Chris Mahlberg attended the 26th Annual TMPAA Summit this month in Scottsdale, AZ. The event, hosted by the Target Markets Program Administration Association, assembles program administrators, carriers and service providers under one roof.
It's a tremendous opportunity to tap the leading minds in the industry for the latest trends and best practices. Plus, we're able to strengthen relationships with current program partners and forge new ones in our focus areas of Non-Emergency Medical Transport (NEMT), Cross-Border Trucking and Drayage.
Our goal is to work closely with our clients to enhance safety, compliance and risk management - all compounding to help you grow your business. The end result helps elevate our partners as well as the entire program marketplace.
If you or someone you know could benefit from access to these programs and more, we invite you to contact us.

Constraints on Fleets
Challenge Growth Outlook
In cross-border news, FreightWaves has reported trade restrictions, higher financing costs and driver shortages are expected to remain elevated into 2027. The prediction comes from executives at logistics provider TRAFFIX who observed that these constraints could limit the number of trucks available to haul goods between the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
In support of this scenario: As of Oct. 11, the FreightWaves SONAR Outbound Tender Volume Index (STVI.LRD) for Laredo has climbed sharply from 39.95 in mid-September to 51.95, indicating a solid uptick in cross-border freight demand. This demand push is reflected in the SONAR Weighted Rejection Index (SWRI), which flipped from -0.74 last week to +0.65, confirming that capacity in Laredo and its adjacent areas is actively tightening.
Two factors that stand out are tighter regulations governing who can operate commercial trucks and the increased cost of purchasing equipment. Other challenges include high interest rates and tighter lending conditions keeping new trucking companies from entering the market and expanding capacity.
For a comprehensive look at the situation and its impacts across the region, you can read the full article here. We invite you to reach out to our team for assistance in managing this and other challenges facing cross-border fleets.
