Welcome,
Next week, on October 2, we mark SWAN's sixth anniversary, and it feels like just yesterday we were celebrating our fifth! Looking back on the last 12 months, I am particularly proud of how much we have evolved as an organization and grown as a team.
Speaking of which, we are happy to announce two new additions to the SWAN family. Our Director of Transportation Marc Crawford became a father and I'm just as excited to announce I welcomed my second child!
We know firsthand the peace of mind that comes from knowing the people close to you are healthy, safe and taken care of. That philosophy holds true for our business and our clients as well. Organizations, just like families, are clearly more successful when their members are healthy, happy and fulfilled. That's why we apply that perspective to our teams and to our valued relationships with our fleet clients.
Amy Luong, our Drayage and Intermodal Specialist, recently attended the Intermodal Expo in mid-September hosted by the Intermodal Association of North American (IANA). Topics covered included terminal design, transloading, driver productivity, sustainability, regulatory risk and chassis provisioning. She also attended the latest quarterly luncheon of the Los Angeles Air Cargo Association (LAACS) on the theme of the power of women in logistics. One of Amy's primary areas of expertise is in working with our clients to help manage the challenges presented by inflation through locking in favorable insurance renewal rates (details below).
Kevin Mealey, our Cross-Border Transportation Specialist, has led an effort to provide auto and excess liability coverage for BG Trucking. Operating in all 48 states, the firm is one of the leading providers of borderless logistics solutions. The SWAN-provided driver insurance program is helping BG Trucking increase its safety culture, expedite claims and ensure that drivers are educated correctly (details below).
Marc Crawford, our Director of Transportation, witnessed the largest attendance to date at the Transform Conference sponsored by the Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Accreditation Commission (NEMTAC). NEMTAC standards epitomize optimal industry practices, ensuring consistent delivery of superior customer care, safe vehicle operations and ethical business conduct. Marc also was a featured speaker on a panel hosted by Broda, a leading provider of medical wheelchairs and accessories.
Should you have any questions for myself or our team, I invite you to contact us directly. With our diverse areas of expertise and commitment to staying one step ahead, we look forward to serving you and your success.
Until our next update, we thank you for being part of our community and welcome your feedback as we work to help you grow your business and Sleep Well At Night.
Thank you,
Chris Mahlberg, TRS

Risk and Claims Certifications Ensure Quality for Fleets
To support your fleets and stay ahead of the competition, you must maintain best practices that resonate with and truly help people. The same goes for your partners like SWAN. One way we do that is to regularly incorporate ongoing continuing education into our workflow.
Certifications and accreditations are an important way to evaluate the qualifications and expertise of potential partner firms for your fleet. In our business, two important designations are Transportation Risk Specialist (TRS) and Transportation Claims Specialist (TCS).
A tight focus on safety is essential in helping relieve fleet operators and business owners of headaches and concerns to give them the peace of mind to grow their business.
In addition to renewing TRS certification myself, two of our team members addressing these concerns for you are Account Manager Michael Goldsmith and Claims Manager Rafael Negron. Both individuals have recently completed certifications from the Motor Carrier Insurance Education Foundation (MCIEF).
To ensure we are on top of these vital issues, we will be attending MCIEF's 2024 Western Conference next month in Phoenix. Topics to be covered include the record increase in freight coming to the U.S. along with the near-shoring movement of manufacturing to Mexico. Let us know if you'll be attending. We'd love to connect with you.
